This quarter, we are highlighting DoM staff member Chad Villaflores! Before joining UCLA, Chad worked in the aerospace industry, supporting a variety of complex systems. His background in systems engineering laid the foundation for a transition into healthcare, which he pursued by completing a Master’s in Healthcare Systems Engineering at Loyola Marymount University. This program gave him the tools to merge his technical expertise with a growing interest in healthcare, opening the door to work that could directly impact patient care and outcomes on a large scale.

As the senior data scientist for the UCLA Healthcare Value Analytics & Solutions group, Chad has spent the last 6.5 years working closely with health system leaders and health services researchers to support UCLA’s learning health system efforts. His team collaborates across departments to ensure the right data is being collected and analyzed using appropriate, evidence-based methods. Chad takes pride in the culture his team has built—one grounded in collaboration and a shared commitment to identifying the best opportunities to improve outcomes for both patients and staff. He also plays a key role in mentoring new research coordinators and analysts, helping ensure they have the resources and support they need to succeed.
