MATC is now accepting applications for cohort  of the Emerging Leaders Development Program through May 16. As part of the Leadership Academy umbrella, Human Resources provides the Emerging Leaders Program as an in-depth professional development program for non-supervisors interested in moving into supervisory roles that is designed to introduce and reinforce effective supervisory and management approaches to support, engage, and drive high performance teams at MATC and includes:

  • Twelve months of workshops & activities to support the employee’s development 
  • Six month practicum designed to provide an opportunity for the participant to gain experience and confidence with supervisory behaviors, actions, and skills.

Program Overview

Develop and support employees interested in moving into a first time supervisory role. To  achieve this, the program includes: 
  • An overview of key management concepts and responsibilities at MATC
  • Monthly training topics to identify strengths and areas of opportunity to support individual growth, development and result
  • Mentorship and collaboration opportunities for best practice sharing, problem solving, support and tools to empower leaders to set and achieve monthly milestone goals.
  • Hands-on supervisory experience through a 6-month practicum within MATC.
  • Monthly communication with action steps designed to enrich participant learning, empower action to apply key learnings, and  transform the way they are showing up and interacting in their role.  

PLEASE NOTE:

  1. Participation in this program is voluntary.
  2. Applications will be reviewed by a committee who will select final participants for the upcoming cohort.
  3. Participation in this program is for development purposes only and does not indicate an intent or a commitment by the college to promote program participants. 

Eligibility Criteria

  1.  Are post-probationary, employed in a full-time position and have a minimum of two years of employment at MATC with a minimum of one year of experience in current role.
  2. New for Cohort 3:  Grant-funded employees are eligible to participate dependent upon the expected duration of the grant (must be expected for the duration of the program plus one additional year).
  3.  Individuals with previous experience will be considered, but priority will be given to applicants needing the two year supervisory credential (less than 2 years of previous supervisory experience).
  4. Are committed to expectations of the emerging leaders program and have the time available to fully participate.
  5. Have a positive work record at the college (no disciplinary actions within the last year). 
  6. Must receive approval to participate from immediate supervisor and Vice President.
  7. Demonstrate initiative and independence; provide evidence of performance evaluation measurements. 
  8. Are receptive to feedback and open to learning (growth mindset). 
  9. Exhibit loyalty and commitment to MATC. 
  10. Have demonstrated commitment to professional development. 
  11. Have good interpersonal skills – employs patience, active listening, and demonstrates positive influence on students/colleagues.
  12. Are committed to the college’s mission and purpose, and exemplify its expectations and core values.

Emerging Leaders Credential (Supervisory Equivalency)

Participants who successfully complete the following program components will receive an Emerging Leaders badge in SumTotal, which  serves as an equivalency to two years of frontline supervisory experience when applying for supervisory positions at the college: 

  • Program orientation.  
  • Twelve (12) workshops. 
  • Self-assessment, 360 assessment and corresponding coaching session to discuss results and further opportunities for development. 
  • Six-month practicum. 
  • Individual development plan with at least two goals to personalize their learning. 

*Participants who miss an in-person workshop will have the opportunity to attend the topic the next time it is offered, which could be during the next Emerging Leaders Cohort or via a Management Essentials workshop of the same title.
