The UCLA Department of Medicine (DoM) is pleased to announce that UCLA Department of Medicine Clinical Insights (DoMCI), a companion to Proceedings of the UCLA Department of Medicine, is now live on the UC eScholarship platform. In offering our DoM faculty an additional venue to publish peer-reviewed content, we hope to expand the volume and scope of faculty submissions and the reach of your creative work.

DoMCI is a peer-reviewed publication administered by the UCLA Department of Medicine, hosted on the University of California’s eScholarship platform. It is not a replacement for Proceedings but is instead a home for diverse content types that inform and educate. There are four submission categories:

  • Visual diagnosis pearls: Videos, gifs or images accompanied by explanations of no more than 650 words. These can have up to three faculty authors.
  • Narrative medicine essays: Reflections on patient interactions that illuminate the lived experience of those who seek care in the DoM. These can have two authors.
  • Quality and patient safety project summaries: Write-ups on quality improvement projects and their results. These can have three authors.
  • Clinical reasoning cases: Problem-solving exercises to improve diagnostic reasoning. Clinical reasoning cases can have as many as five faculty authors.

DoMCI accepts submissions year-round and will publish issues on a quarterly basis. Please visit DoMCI on the eScholarship platform to learn more about the submission categories, submission guidelines and policies, and the peer review process.

To ensure the success of DoMCI, we encourage DoM faculty to join our network of peer reviewers for this new publication – please express your interest in becoming a peer reviewer here.

Ready to submit your work for publication? Please find a step-by-step submission guide below.

As we launch this new publication, you are welcome to contact Editor-in-Chief Michael Lazarus, MD, Senior Editors Dianne Cheung, MD, MPH and Ramya Malchira, MD, and Project Manager Nina Rogers with questions at domeditor@mednet.ucla.edu.

The department looks forward to sharing our scholarship with a wider audience and to expanding professional opportunities for faculty. We are grateful to the editorial team and staff for their efforts on this important initiative.
